Gymnastics Meet

"Oh, mom!" I shouted when my mother pulled the hair I hugged strongly. She crossed the cross for my first gymnastics competition and made two neat French nephews. The idea for this special event met me with the familiar tension and excitement to me. Butterflies are raging in my stomach, and my knees feel like they are about to collapse into one million pieces from the weight of my own body. Whenever you think of terrible work in front of me, excitement will not let my tension touch other parts of the body any more. I complete a terrible job in front of me: I complete my flip in front of a hundred people.

Two events down, two go balanced beams and a floor exercise. I was almost 18 years old and played half of my last gymnast competition in my 10 year career. This is the champion of the conference - this conference will decide who will proceed to the match in the post season. My chance to participate in regional championships depends on my achievement with balanced beams. At this point in my career, this is my strongest event. When I walked into the beam, I tried to ignore the pressure, and I told myself that this was just another convention. But that is not just another "simple" routine, it is to extend my last season or mark tonight's game as my last race.

I think that my last gymnast event did not succeed. I did not qualify to drop the beam and participate in regional competitions, but I finished my day-to-day work in a calm way and cheered my teammates. I may have felt as though I failed the meeting, but my parents reminded me that success is part of it. Apollo 13 entered space and walked on the moon. Of course, they failed. But in history books and movies - they remember much more than their failures. People remember their patience, teamwork, and overcoming the serious opportunity for them to live and return to the earth. Even if they did not complete their first mission, their success far exceeded their failure.
