Groupthink symptoms and remedies

Irving Janis (1982) made the term "collective thinking". Collective thinking refers to "psychological efficiency caused by collective internal pressure, realistic test decline, and moral judgment" (as described in Plous, 1993, p. 203). Signs of collective thinking have impressed fantasies (bringing excessive danger), opponents accused of being malicious or ignorant, have a wrong sense of unity, and are obliged to obey the majority (Plous, 1993 , P. 203). To say the least, the symptoms of collective thinking are not only harmful to the performance of the group itself but also harmful to society.

The environment explored by scholars and collective thinking theorists is different, but it shows much of the same trend and failure. Irving Janis provided a summary of the prerequisites and symptoms of group thinking (1982, 244). Here we list words (in bold) one character at a time, omitting items that are not suitable for scholarly applications (such as 'Contextual provocation'). We have added proposals on how these symptoms and symptoms work in academia (in the usual category).
