In recent decades, organizations turned to the team-based structure to improve the performance of the organization and the research focused on investigating these new work structures. In this chapter we will explain the process research of teams and groups within the organization. The first focus of this chapter is the team and team definition. We will also briefly explain the team type and team development theory. Then several group dynamics theories are introduced. The input process output framework explains the relationships between variables in team research and provides structures for discussion of team related variables such as individual and team level characteristics, team and team processes, team performance, etc. . The common goal of team and team research is to understand how to improve team efficiency and performance. Therefore, team performance is included as an important result variable of this framework. After that the framework has been expanded and the latest approaches to classify team-based research within the organization have been proposed. It also explains the potential roles of regulatory variables in team surveys.
