Great Potato Famine

From around 1845 until around 1852, there was a great famine in Ireland. This is very destructive to many people. Numerous people passed away due to food shortages, others became sick and later died. Famine was caused by a protest like a fungus corrupting potatoes. People in Ireland depend heavily on potatoes, so when their main harvest fails, people have nothing to eat or sell. Many other people who have never died in Ireland have migrated to other countries such as the United States to seek a better life.

It put out about 1 million deaths and forced more than 2 million people to travel from Ireland. Hunger is an important factor because potatoes are the main food source. When potatoes were infected, people began to cause so-called "famine fever".
