Design education: formal education and self learning In today's world, information is always within reach of us and many people are considering other methods of education. Many people self-learn new skill sets with a simple Google search, and all professionals benefit from a lot of established information. This advancement in technology, coupled with the rise in the cost of higher education, wonders whether formal education is necessary, especially in creative occupations.
"A graphic design requires AA or BA." This is theory. Many artists and graphic designers have never received formal education on graphic design or (continuous) art, never graduated from art school or university before graduation. There are not many people who have been to college or university. They practiced / learned art and graphic design for YEARS. Instead of purchasing a (pretty) expensive Rosetta Stone in the App Store and the Google Play store, there is a Japanese learning application that you can learn (and you can purchase a full version of $ 50) instead. I am still learning Japanese but I am not fluent as I used my Japanese coach for Nintendo DS. Since the end of 2009 to the beginning of 2010 we had a Smart.fm account, so at the beginning of the year, Cerego in Japan is looking at the subscription model.

I am not sure about the statistics of formal education and self-study education, but I think the designer can do both at the same time. In visual communication, I learned vision, design theory, editing design, production method, photographs and so on. After graduation, I had to learn Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign myself. JO: I graduated from Philippine University Fine Arts College with a degree in Visual Communication. This is an extensive course including a few design subjects, but I can experience many things like character sketching, marketing, or electronic media. When I graduated from college and began working at a design studio, I began to understand and in fact started to do better design. I think it is the same for many people. But now it is wonderful for many studios interested in graphic design to provide practical slots for many design studios.
