In this course we will explore the transformation of Rome from the village of Hirano to the capital of the empire. Did the first emperor in Rome try to shape the Hellenistic monarchy in the model of Alexandre and its heirs? Has he been active only in the Republican tradition established over the centuries in the aristocratic competition of Rome? Our sources include ancient art and architecture, literary works, maps and critical city theory.
