GMO Foods: What Am I Eating?

Foods produced in genetically modified organisms (GMO) have room for discussion. Consumer surveillance agencies such as Greenpeace International claim to ban genetically modified foods. However, others believe that genetically modified foods are safe for human consumption and can help feed the world while reducing the use of pesticides. Nevertheless, despite the general disagreement on the acceptability and safety of GM foods, consumers should clearly understand GM foods and these foods require labeling.

On the one hand, it can be used to increase production, as well as foods that can be converted to insect tolerance and greater nutritional value (those are those). On the other hand, I think it is difficult for many people to test the safety of food as a whole.

GMO is certainly not an exception, it has received a more severe safety assessment than non-GM varieties. Research, development and testing for 7 to 10 years is usually necessary before GMO approves sales in Canada. The science-based assessment process ensures that approved GMOs are safe for humans, animals, and the environment.
