Global Film Industry: The Influence of Bollywood on Hollywood

Over the years, Bollywood has become a unique identity in the world film industry. Bollywood is the world leader in movie production with 27,000 feature films and thousands of short films. (Pillania 1) But Hollywood is still a leader in revenue growth. Due to the growth and globalization of the Indian market, Bollywood has shifted to international markets. Globalization tends to point out that Hollywood is strongly influenced by Bollywood as it is often misunderstood that the influence of Western culture is increasing in the world.

As early as the 1950s, Indian film industry was influenced by Hollywood. In fact, their film industry name "Bollywood" is plagiarism of Hollywood. The history of the first Indian movie dates back to the 1913 silent movie Raja Harischandra. At the time, Bollywood movies were seen by audiences to avoid family problems, but there were not so many movies to solve social problems, most of them were romantic musicals and melodramas. In the 1950s, the theme of the story in the movie changed. Inspired by Hollywood, they began making movies that expressed social themes related to the Indian working class city life. Western trends such as rock'n'roll and dance are beginning to influence the popularity of Indian movies and the traditional costumes and dances expressing our culture have been replaced by the sex and charm of Hollywood.
