The worship of the shepherd, sometimes called the Alluredale Nativity, was followed by a painting by the Italian Renaissance painter Giorgione, an original master completed between 1505 and 1510. Attribution is now universal but common but another common point is that it is early Titian. This is of course Venetian painting. It was exhibited in the National Gallery in Washington DC, USA. After the nativity of Allendale, the group of paintings was sometimes said to be "the Allendale group." This group includes another Washington painting, the Holy Family, and the worship of the Magi Puri Della Group held at the National Gallery in London. This group is now often extended to include another worship of Vienna Shepherd, sometimes more, and is usually excluded from all works of Giorgione (increasingly).
It was owned by Claudius Taral in Paris and sold at Christie 's auction in London on June 11, 1847 as worship of Giorgione' s shepherd. There are 55 images in the auction and it is sold for £ 3,383. Giorgione sold 1,470 Guinness (£ 1,544). The fact that this large amount against total sales and that it was the last call batch indicates that it is the main item of sales. In the auction of 1847, this picture became possession of Thomas · Wentworth · Beaumont (1792-1848) in Breton Hall of West Yorkshire, England. From him Wentworth Blackett Beaumont, First Baron Allendale (1829-1907), his son Wentworth Beaumont, First Viscount Allendale and his son Wentworth Beaumont, Second Viscount Allendale (1890-1956)
