Georgia school brings back paddling as punishment

Director Jody Boulineau issued an "I Agree" form asking parents to allow their policy to be used for children

"No obligation is needed, parents can agree to use it as a disciplinary measure, or refuse to agree," Boulineau said.

The form says, "Students are taken to a closed office, where students put their hands on the knees and furniture and up to three times until they hit the waist with a paddle board".

So far, GSIC has shown that it has received about 100 sheets, of which one third makes it possible for school officials to paddle

Georgia is still one of the 19 states that are using corporal punishment, but this practice has steadily declined since the late 1970s.

The Georgia State Innovation and Classics Institute (GSIC) is a charter school from kindergarten to ninth grade. Education chief Jody Boulineau told WRDW that about 100 parents sent back the form and one third of the students agreed to paddle their children.
