Banjo Paterson was born in Nalambra, New South Wales. He is the biggest of the seven children. Banjo has brothers and five sisters. His parents' names are Scottish traditions Andrew Bogle and Rose Isabella Paterson. Banjo's parents are farmers at the Illalong Yas district station. Most of Banjo's life was spent on family estate, but when he was ten, his parents asked him to live in Sydney with his grandmother for educational reasons. Banjo Patterson is a skilled horse rider and polo player.

When Banjo Patterson was a law school student, he started writing poems. The first poem he wrote was called "El Mahdi to the Australian Army" and was published in "Gazette" in February 1885. He later adopted the pseudonym "Banjo" taken from the name of the racing hose. His family owns it. He later became one of communiqué writers and artists. In October 1895, Angus and Robertson published the first book of Banjo Patterson, "Snow River People and Other Bibles". The book was a huge success and sold over 7,000 copies in just a few months. During Queensland vacation in late 1895, banjo was with my friends. This was his "Waltzing Matilda", later became one of the most famous folk songs in Australia. Banjo Patterson visited South Africa in 1899 as a special war correspondent for the Sydney Morning Herald during the Boss War.
