From Out of the Shadows: Americanization of Mexican American Women

The era of progress usually applies to various reactions to rapidly industrialized economic and social problems introduced by the United States. This period can be reduced to the history of Mexican American women living in the southwest and midwest of the United States between 1890 and 1919. Among the events involved in the Mexican community at that time included various processes including restrictions, expulsion or American immigration from Mexico.

Both American women and Mexican women are directly involved in the Mexican revolution. American women are radical and revolutionary. American women are paying attention to the welfare of immigrants and their influence on border areas and states. Mexican women are labor activists, extreme journalists, extreme intellectuals. Mexican women are fighting for political leadership and ideals of freedom. Throughout the Mexican revolution, women on both sides influenced the political and welfare of Mexican people. What are the behaviors taken by these women? What is the difference between those methods?

As with Hispanic women, wage disparity between Mexican American women and white men has sharply declined from the 1980s to the 1990s. However, the wage gap between Hispanic women has stabilized in the mid-1990s, but the wage disparity between Mexican-American women has continued to decline until the beginning of the 21st century and has just started to stabilize since the mid-2000s. However, the trend in wage disparity between Puerto Rican and Cuban American workers does not track the trend of Hispanic wage disparities. In relation to probably few samples, fluctuations in the wage gap of Puerto Ricans, especially Cuban American workers, are more unstable than Mexican American workers. To minimize this volatility, Figures K and L represent wage disparities for each subgroup as a three-year moving average. Compared to Mexican Americans, male and female Puerto Rico have a smaller wage differential than non-Hispanic whites.
