Freedom of Self- Expression: Tattoos and Body Piercings at 16 Should be Permitted

Most parents agree that children should be given permission for tattoos and body piercing. Young people should have the power to rely on them. Current Texas State law stipulates that people under the age of 18 must obtain permission from parents before receiving tattoos and body piercings. Authentication is required to confirm the age of the person. I think that by 16 years of age any student should have the right to express themselves in the form of tattoos and body piercings. People, especially young people, have different ways to show themselves.

The growing popularity of identity tattoos and body penetrating tattoos and perforations is not merely the latest fashion epidemic. This body art was a part of this world for thousands of years. Tattoos and piercings were even in the form of amulets, symbols of identity, declarations of love, symbols of religious beliefs, decorations and even punishment (Smithsonian.com). In later years (1940-2000), tattoos and perforations were more common among young people and young people, but now people of all ages express themselves through body art. Modern adolescence and young adult culture has accepted tattoos and body piercings.
