Supporting the expansion of nutrition enhancement of rice is becoming the center of attention for the World Food Program (WFP). In Bangladesh we partner with government and private sector partners to build an enhanced rice supply chain that is distributed through the world's largest social safety net program. We are also working with the private sector and the Government of India to introduce rice into the school lunch program and formulate standards for rice.

Several cases of beri-beri were discovered in school-age children in Bhutan - after the shortage of vitamin B1 (thiamine) the government asked WFP to support the strengthening of rice. Enhancement - adding vitamins and minerals to frequently eaten foods - is a cost-effective way to combat malnutrition of micronutrients. Today, under the technical support of the World Food Program, local rice mills process reinforced rice for use at Bhutan's school. There are many advantages: Schools provide predictable product exports to local farmers, stable income encourages farmers to increase production diversification and productivity. In Honduras, you can enjoy a variety of healthy dishes using fresh ingredients, fresh ingredients include seasonal fruits and vegetables, eggs and fish.

In the history of WFP operations, and perhaps in the history of shopping, Syrians of Zatari and Azraq camps can use iris scanning technology for the first time to buy food.

We noticed that they bought a lot of rice and ignored other products that might be more nutritious. This is a big red flag for us. We are investigating the food we are offering and recommending that owners include some local nutritious foods to replace - at least in part - or to supplement them. Our advice includes pumpkins, long green beans locally available, and other foods that people like to eat.
