Fragile X Disease

Vulnerable X is a disease that has serious effects on the daily lives of people affected by it. Unfortunately, this disease limits the individual in several ways. Physical symptoms include elongated faces that are longer than normal ears and feet. In addition, due to the difficulties in dealing with shame and face, individuals have difficulty talking to others and therefore encounter behavioral disturbances. Most importantly, an individual may have a mental retardation that is the result of a vulnerable X such as memory difficulty.

Fragile X syndrome is the most common form of hereditary developmental disorder. When there is a problem with a specific gene, it becomes sick. Usually, this gene produces the protein necessary for brain development. But the problem is that people have little or no protein. This may lead to symptoms of vulnerable X

Fragile X syndrome (FXS) is a hereditary disorder. Genetic diseases mean that human genes have changed. FXS is caused by a change in the fragile X mental retardation 1 (FMR1) gene. The FMR1 gene normally produces a protein called fragile X mental retardation protein (FMRP). FMRP is necessary for normal brain development. People with FXS do not produce this protein. The FMR1 gene is altered in people with other vulnerable X-related diseases, but usually produces several proteins. Diagnosis of FXS may be useful to families as it can justify children's mental retardation and behavior problems. This allows families and other carers to learn more about the disease and manage care so that they can reach their full potential. However, DNA test results may affect other families and cause many problems. Therefore, anyone considering FXS examination needs to consider genetic counseling before the examination.

Fragile X syndrome is the most common mental disorder affected by one out of 4,000 boys in the United States and one out of 6,000 to 8,000 girls (CDC, 2015 f). It is caused by a mutation in the gene on the X chromosome. Fragile X syndrome can cause learning disabilities, language and language delay, ADHD and anxiety (CDC, 2015 f). Fragile X syndrome can not be cured, but early intervention is very beneficial for children and families affected by this syndrome. Down's syndrome is another genetic disorder with an extra copy of chromosome 21 rather than a typical two copies (Leahy, Fuzy & Grafe, 2013). People with Down Syndrome usually have large physical features such as small skull, flat nose, short fingers, the first two digits of hands and feet wide (Leahy, Fuzy, Grafe).
