For Students: Information Literacy

Information literacy is currently one of the "basic competency requirements" for Skyline College graduates with degrees in AA or AS, and is a directory rights student starting in autumn 2011.

Information literacy is the ability to search, evaluate, organize, use, and provide information in a variety of ways, especially when decisions are needed, when problems are resolved, or when you acquire knowledge. It combines research skills, critical thought skills, computer skills and communication skills. Information literacy is essential to academic success, effective function of the workplace, and participation as a knowledgeable citizen in society.

The purpose of this requirement is to help you become a more mature, insightful and confident researcher and to lay the foundation for independent lifelong learning. Upon successful completion of the information literacy requirement, you can:
