In the pray of Owen Menini, John Everin uses several symbols to explore the subject of fate and God's rule. Ivring describes some objects and characters as a sacrifice without weapons to represent the influence of God. In particular, Owen Meany is often described as a ground instrument representing what he thinks is a god. Owen was said to have been open in the air while he was originally going to Sunday school (page 2). Behind the book, John picked up Owen several times, brought him to a basketball hoop, and was able to practice dunk called "shooting". Before Owen died, he was promoted to a high window again to protect the group.
Another important theme in the book is the smoldering image and cutting. This book is full of images of people and things that a part of the body is missing: the most common is the weapon: Ya 's arms - free image and Owen himself who lost his arm and his death and more Although to a lesser extent, caused Lydia's leg cutting. In this book, as Johnny often thinks of himself, the image without arms represents various perspectives: people are useful about the fate of destiny, the pain caused by this unfairness, the loss of loved ones and property Absent. God surrenders (In a sense, God "robs" the arm of a person and uses it as a tool - just like the deadly waves of Irving)
John Owen's Owen Meni's prayers have various themes. The main theme is unbeatable. Throughout the story, arms are repeated themes that have appeared many times. It seems to symbolize helplessness and being controlled by myself. There are various things in the novel that give up this feeling. It is very precious to John. He got the only gift from Dunnie Dam, a gift he got from one of his mothers. This has great emotional value for him and young Owen. That's why it shows a lot of mental distress to Irving as Irving removes his nails. He did this when he hit a Johnny's mother with a foul ball that killed her. Dan explained that Irving is now powerless, but I can not do anything to change what was the accident. This may be part of the fact, but it may symbolize something else as well.
The absence of material or incompetence / disconnection in the story seems to link the two roles several times. John and Owen seem to be fascinated by subconscious without weapons. The most important of these is 犰犰. This is the gift from Dan, so this is the only connection between the two to John's mother. If you balance the nails without them, they will fall. After John's mother died, Owen removed his nails and helped explain to John that they lost what they loved. Another example is the loss of Irving's weapons. Shooting caused this terrible deformation in Owen. But the shooting was that Irving and John were doing all of his life, which eventually meant that Irving's weapons loss played an important role in friendship. Finally, the fingers John removed from his hand show what arms are not used to put them together.
