One of the first robots built so far was the robot Clepsydra, which was built in 250 BC, or the water clock. It was created by Greek physicist and inventor Alexander Ctesibius. Returning to the modern world, the first remote controlled car was built by Nikola Tesla in the 1890s. Tesla is best known as the inventor of AC power, radio (before Marconi), induction motor, Tesla coil and other electrical equipment. Among the other early robots (1940s - 1950s), there were "Ersey Turtle" by Gray Walter and "Beast" by John Hopkins. "Shakey" is a small and unstable wheel box that uses memory and logical reasoning to solve the problem and navigate its environment.
Since robotics involves the use of machines, it may be considered a new job. Do you notice that the first robot was actually built about 2 400 years ago? It was created by Greek mathematician Archytas. This ancient robot has a shape like a bird and it is made of wood. Archytas uses steam to move birds. Once, it actually "flew" about 600 feet! Did you notice that Archytas is a mathematician? It is because we need to be able to use mathematics to help robot engineers make their own robots. They are creative and need to come up with new ideas to use our robots to ease our lives. If you are a robot engineer and can design a robot, what will you do?
I have always been fascinated by robots and electronic equipment. I made my first robot when I was ten years old - I used a coffee waiter made of LEGO brick. It only includes remote control blocks, motors and tapes, not AI, but it provides graceful coffee for family visitors :). I have been programming since I was a child and always have greater ambitions than my own knowledge. Learning is something I always love, I think it is natural that I want to teach the way to learn from computers.
There was a fairly silly example of this book that appeared in my life when my lab PR2 robot came to be problematic. PR2 is an expensive research robot, the first robot I have used so far. Like me and old friends, I used it to make a series of good memories. However, it has some age related problems. I upgraded the software so that the wireless network will not work. So that wheel is broken so it can not drive. One day, when the robot suddenly shut down, I was debugging wheel problems. I removed it from the power supply, but it will run with battery for hours. Instead, I realized that the battery was too old to charge.
