Fictional Lies to Children: Good or Bad?

I believe that by teaching children fictitious characters such as Santa Claus, Easter Bunny, Teeth Fairy, children will prefer vacation / activities rather than incredible things. Parents of these children may be confused and injured, but they may also draw magic while on vacation. So how do we know what happens when we teach these small "white lies" to our children?
