Federalists vs. Republicans

Since the 1790s, the country has been governed by two major parties, first the Federalist and Democratic Republic, then the Whigs and Democrats, and now Democrats and Republicans. Second parties or third parties sometimes appear and tend to claim policies specific to specific issues. At different times, the Socialist Party, the Peasant Workers Party and the Populist Party had considerable local power for several years and then disappeared gradually afterwards - in Minnesota, the migrant workers 'party is now officially known as Democratic Party-farmers' labor Merging with the state Democratic Party. Currently, Liberal Party is the most successful third party.
