The purpose of this paper is to discuss how the three Victorian writers use the characteristics of Gothic Horror to create an ominous prophetic atmosphere in short stories. The three stories that I would like to explore are yellow wallpaper, red room and monkey's feet. The red room uses the characteristics of the most traditional Gothic horror. It is set to "Lorraine Castle" and it is exactly the same as Gothic horror because it was abandoned for 18 months. This is terrible, as there are ancient furniture, statues, many corridors, and corners where people can hide behind the castle.
