Father Damien and His Journey

Father Damien and his trip Between 1866 and 1873, 779 leprosy patients arrived at Molokai. Almost half died. The public is outraged, and the Health Department is trying to improve the situation. In April 1873, politician at the time Walter Gibson wrote a newspaper article and made a bold request. It appeals to a noble Christian pastor, missionary or sister to sacrifice his life to comfort Molokai's counsel. Several people in Hawaii are willing to respond. One of them is Father Damien, a charitable Catholic priest with orders of Sacred Heart.

By 1873, the Carabo settlement developed into a mature community reaching its height in 1890. Many of the changes in the settlements during this period are attributed to Belgian pastor Peter Damien. Father Damian helped the construction of 300 of the 325 buildings that make up the Caravo village, including houses and churches such as the San Filio Roman Catholic Church. He managed water supply, roads and coffins, drilling of tombs, drugs and cuttings. Father Damian speaks Hawaiian and develops positive energy. He is known as a "Christian hero" and widely advertised around the world. After 12 years of reconciliation, Father Damien infected leprosy. Four years later he died on 15th April 1889 and was buried in the San Fei Mena cemetery 16 years after his voluntary service in the settlements of Caravo.

Since Father Damien inspires Hansen's disease patients by touching diseased bodies, they are not afraid to do so.
