Agriculture with nature is a real solution. Through 40 years of research, organic agriculture shows that we can produce enough food to cultivate an ever growing population while protecting the ecosystems we depend on. Organic agriculture is a climate solution: It absorbs more carbon into the soil than traditional agriculture and provides greater resilience during droughts and floods. Organic farms support up to 50% of pollinated species over traditional farms and help other beneficial insects grow and promote biodiversity.

Organic farmers grow using traditional agricultural tools. Due to the goal of sustainable development of organic agriculture, organic farmers seek to minimize reliance on fossil fuels. In developing countries with small organic farms, tools are usually limited to hand-held tools and diesel powered pumps. According to the standard, the production method of organic agriculture and in some cases the final production amount is specified. Criteria may be voluntary or legislative. Early in the 1970s, private organizations certified organic producers. In the 1980s, the government began to develop guidelines for organic production. In the 1990s, the trend of legislation standards began to emerge. Most notably, the EU's ecological regulation against the EU in 1991, the criteria of 12 countries, and the UK plan of 1993. The European Union's plan followed the Japanese plan of 2001, in 2002 the United States created a national organic plan (NOP). As of 2007, over 60 countries regulate organic agriculture (IFOAM 2007: 11).
