Abstract: Pithecellobium Jiringan (Jack) Prain is a raw material for medicinal plants consisting of vitamin E. Since vitamin E can be used as an antioxidant, antihypertensive agent, anti-aging agent, these seeds have many health benefits. . The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal parameters of high quality vitamin E. Vitamin E was extracted from P. Jiringan seeds by Soxhlet extraction. The parameters included in this study are the extraction time (4 to 8 hours) and the type of solvent used (hexane, methanol, water).
In this experiment, Soxhlet extraction was used. Soxhlet extraction is an extraction method using a chemical solvent. Oils from algae are extracted by repeated washing or diafiltration in a special glassware under organic solvent such as hexane or petroleum ether under reflux. Copla which is the core of dried coconut is the sample being used. In general, however, in order to destroy the cell membrane and other structures that are difficult to extract, the sample must be ground and prepared prior to the extraction procedure. In this experiment, petroleum ether was used as a solvent because it has a low boiling point, is relatively nontoxic (compared to chloroform or methanol), and of course nonpolar.
Extraction and analysis of fat was performed according to AOAC standard procedure (AOAC, 2000) using Soxhlet method. The dried sample was ground homogeneously and 2 g of the ground sample was placed in a Soxtec extraction tube. The oil was extracted with petroleum ether. The oil content of each sample was calculated based on the dry weight as a ratio of the mass of the extracted oil to the mass of the dry sample. The color of the fried chicken sample was measured using a Minolta Color Reader (CR - 10, Minolta, Osaka, Japan). The CIE L *, a *, b * color scale is used for color measurement. Three readings are made at three different places for each sample at room temperature and the average is recorded
