Expressions of power

Power can not only be defined in a normally negative way and as a form of control, but it can also be a positive force in the transformation of personal and collective action. Lisa Vene Klasen and Valeries Miller talk about the four "power expressions" of "New Power Weaving" (2002, p. 55) as follows.

On the political side, people who control resources and decision-making are more powerful than people without control. Inequality, fraud and poverty continue even if people are deprived of important resources for land access, health care and employment. In the absence of other models and relationships, people repeat the "end of power" model in their personal relationships, communities, and institutions. The same can be said to people in the group left behind or "unable to". When they acquire power in a leadership position, they occasionally "impersonate as oppressors." Therefore, supporters can not expect the excluded experience to make people a democratic leader. In order to promote more democratic form of power, it is necessary to clearly define, guidance and reward new forms of leadership and decision-making.
