Christopher Columbus is an explorer exploring America. Of course, we have already lived in the US, and we called them native American. Leif Ericsson from Europe who has been to the Americas. However, it was the voyage of Columbus that began exploring and colonizing the Americas.

Columbus was born in Genoa in Italy in 1451. After that he lived in Lisbon, where he worked as a businessman. He learned how to make maps and navigation boats.

Columbus and his brother Bartholomew knew that there are many wealth in China and East Asia. However, the land movement of the Silk Road is dangerous, and the seas around Africa seems to be too long. Columbus believes that he can navigate directly to China across the Atlantic Ocean.

It turned out that Columbus was wrong. The earth is much bigger than he imagined and there is another land between the Europe and Asia, the Americas.

Columbus tried to persuade someone to pay his voyage for several years. He first tried to let John II of Portugal pay for travel expenses, but the king showed no interest. Finally, he was able to persuade Queen Isabella and King Spain Ferdinand to pay travel expenses.

He departed on 3 August 1492 by three vessels of Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria. Navigation is long and difficult. Once he threatened to betray it, he wanted to turn back. Columbus promised them that they would look back in two days if they could not find the land. However, in his diary he wrote that he did not plan to look back.

Land was discovered on 12th October 1492. This is a small island in Bahamas, Columbus named San Salvador. He met local people there and called him India. He was convinced that he landed on an island along the coast of East Asia. He also visited other Caribbean islands such as Cuba and Hispaniola.

After discovery, Columbus was keen to return to Spain to get his wealth. However, because Santa Maria is shipwrecked on the coast of Hispaniola, only Pinta and Nina can return to Spain. Columbus left 43 men on the island and began an outpost.

After returning home, Columbus was treated as a hero. He introduced some of the things I found, such as turkeys, pineapple, and the local people he caught. King of Spain is happy to finance future adventure

Columbus will travel to the United States three times. He explored more Caribbean, and even saw the continent United States. He encountered some difficulties as a local governor and his behavior and even the abuses of some settlers were arrested. Columbus died on May 20, 1506. He believes he found a short cut in Asia across the Atlantic. He did not know how wonderful he did.

Columbus was initially buried in Spain, but then his body moved to Santo Domingo in the New World, then returned to Spain.

In his first calculation he believed that Asia is 2,400 miles from Portugal. He left. It is actually 10,000 miles ahead. It goes without saying that there is a huge continent between the two
