Examining Pascal's Argument for God

Pascal 's argument has many reactions. British humorist Terry Plache concisely sums up the story of philosophers in one of his books. "May God exist or not exist, when you die, you go to a nice place, otherwise you will not lose anything (Pratchett 51)" There seems to be two religious choices for ordinary people; believe in God or believe in God.

Blaise Pascal's answer is called "Pascal's Wager" or "Pascal's Gambit". "Pascal's bet" is an argument that encourages people to believe in God. Discussion points out that human beings can never prove the existence of God. The reason is that humans rely too much on human senses to prove or oppose. Our five senses are taste, touch, smell, sound, and vision. These five senses can only detect atomic substances, which is basically "something". If God is omnipotent and versatile, God will not be composed of atoms, ions, photons, electrons, quarks, etc. So people trying to prove the existence of God are like using metal detectors to prove the existence of water. Therefore, we can not prove the existence of God in our life. Blythe Pascal said there are only two options in faith, you believe in God or can not believe. If you choose "I do not know if God exists", you have not believed it yet. Faith is a kind of gambling as we can not prove the existence of God.

Bryce Pascal proposes a famous argument about believing in the existence of God, but it could also be to believe in immortality (Pascal, 2005). The discussion of so-called "Pascal Bet" is roughly as follows. It is prudent to believe that God exists if we decide to believe that God exists. If we believe in God properly, we will have eternal happiness; if God does not exist, we will not lose anything because there is no final judgment to explain our mistake Hmm. On the other hand, if you believe correctly that God does not exist, we can not get anything so that there is no final judgment to reward faith. But if you believe that there is no god erroneously, you will lose eternal happiness and be cursed by eternal hell. By calculating risks and benefits, we should conclude that believing in God is better.
