Evaluating the Article "Making Sense of Poverty" by Dennis Raphael

We insist that Canada is a "democratic constitutional monarchy" and regards itself as a non-discriminatory and equal country. Canada is a developed country and believes in equality, but there are always goals for certain ethnic minorities. That is, the distribution of lower class resources is unequal. Unfortunately, with this blind eye to the poor Canadian, one in six Canadians got into poverty (Rafael, p. 29). Chapter 4: Poverty eradication: In social inequality and social exclusion, Rafael reveals poverty by revealing the concept of poverty, social inequality and elimination by expanding poverty trends.

But Canada's poverty is a major threat to sustainable socio-economic development in Canada. According to the 2003 statistical report, the poverty rate is estimated to exceed 10% (Raphael, 2002). This percentage has been confirmed as an official value by the Central Intelligence Agency, but it is certainly expected to be higher than that. However, the Federal Government of Canada does not agree with this value and seems to be publishing the current poverty rate that has dropped to less than 5% in the past 60 years (Raphael, 2002).

According to the 2008 report by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, Canada's poverty rate is the highest in the OECD countries, the world's richest advanced country. Since Canada does not have an official government definition, it does not measure the degree of poverty.
