That was on 20th September 2003, I first evacuated from the city of New Orleans. A hurricane came, my family and I need to leave. It took 17 hours for this trip, but it is too long. I need to work before leaving town. I am working at the 24-hour medical department on the ninth floor of the charity hospital, so the job of certified nursing aid is my delay. However, there are things that can not be avoided, such as setting up hospital units for new employees who retire and helping to dismiss patients so that they can stay with their families.
Ames - Iowa Ames - Michael Stanley wore a suit filled with two guitars and a suitcase and evacuated New Orleans 24 hours before Hurricane Katrina. He hopes to return to the New Orleans glass factory school and his home in a few days - the underground apartments filled with his paintings and sculptures, and the myriad tools used to make them. Just a few weeks ago, he enrolled in the master degree course at the University of New Orleans. When Stanley was allowed to return after three months, everything he was gone and almost all of his graduate school were destroyed. He has no art, no photographs of art works and tools for making it. I thought that it was impossible for him to enter other graduate schools without a job. When he lined the Salvation Army to attend his daily MRE luncheon, he even thought of starting with a new field. Under the weight of this feeling, Stanley is as irritated as many people in New Orleans.
On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina attacked New Orleans and evacuated there. The stormy wind on the fifth floor was blown off the roof, causing a storm surge, breaking through the four dams and flooding 80% of the city. Hundreds of people were killed in the flood, thousands of people were captured in harsh conditions for several days, and state and federal rescuers were able to reach out to them.
In Houston, currently fighting millions of people in Hurricane Harvey in Houston, there are no doubt that many people came to Houston after evacuating New Orleans between Hurricane Katrina twelve years ago. There are some suitable comparisons between Harvey and Katrina, but the reason why people turn evacuations into a more permanent relocation is not exactly the same. First of all, the flood of Houston is the result of pure rain, the flood of New Orleans is the result of infrastructure error - infamous dam damage
