Ethnic Identity and Ethnic Identity of African Americans Ethnic identity is the sum of group members' perceptions of values, symbols and common history and treats them as different groups (Smith 1991). The development of national identity is important as it helps people make their ethnic members a prominent reference group and making it an important part of the individual's overall identity. The ethnic reference group refers to the psychological correlation between individuals and groups (Smith 1991).
E. Smith and Brookins (1997) has developed a national identity standard specifically for African-American youth. A multi-architecture African American Identity Questionnaire (MCAIQ) is offered to teenagers aged 11 to 18 years old. This measure includes four elements of national identity. The social positioning scale evaluates the affinity of adolescent young people to interact with themselves and other racial and ethnic members. This sub-scale item is "I like white friends." Appearance Direction Subscale evaluates the values of physical features ("Black is beautiful"). The "attitude" subscale evaluates the extent to which respondents accept or refuse African American stereotypes ("If you try, they can do anything"). Another directional subscale evaluates the preference for working with non-black people ("I like to work with other people")

Despite the resilience of ethnic identity across Africa, post-colonial countries have helped to eliminate ethnicity when building national systems, which is certainly an impossible political task is there. As a result, they are seeing race in a negative way, but this does not contribute to development and national progress. The fact that all African countries are being removed from the politics of several countries is unprecedented. Africa has to take decisive steps to understand and manage ethnic diversity. Then all communities of nationality can live their own identity at their level while living as citizens as a nation state. This chapter explains the positive value of the rooted identity at the individual and national level, and the national identity of the country explicitly, while taking into account the historical nation-building process of the national state of Africa Emphasize the need to reestablish a new national identity.
