The Academic Success Center holds an essay competition for undergraduates and graduate students. The purpose of this competition is to demonstrate the efforts of SHSU students on citizen participation and community improvement.

Scholarships for the fall term of 2018 will be awarded to scholarships for the first ($ 1,000), second ($ 750) and third ($ 250) scholarships.

Winners will also be awarded on the Outline Publications and Academic Success Center websites. Furthermore, the best entries will be posted on the SHSU US Democracy Project website. I am looking for a short personal story showing the theme "Life measurement is service". I hope the true story of true SHSU students is devoted to extraordinary service and citizen participation. This paper has personal direct experience and may indicate services seen to others.

There is no minimum length required, but the maximum length of the article is 1000 words. All papers blindly review and evaluate content and form. After the initial review, a small number of papers are considered comprehensively superior and are recommended for publication. The winning paper is selected from the group. The paper must be submitted to asc@shsu.edu by April 6, 2018. Electronic submission is required. The submission must be sent as an e-mail attachment (.doc, .docx, or .rtf file only) to the subject line of the e-mail as "the metric of life is a service essay contest".

Each applicant can submit only one paper to the contest. To make blind review possible, there must be no self-referencing or other identifying elements in the document; please do not include title in author's name. Prose should be dual
