"Lullaby" is a short story originally written in a book called Story Teller in 1981. This is a book by Leslie M. Silko, expressing her message using short stories, memories, poems, family photos, and songs. As a rule of thumb, this book is related to Native American culture, so it's about the storytelling tradition.

Lullaby is like a story about the tension between the old couple in the tradition, change, death, loss, and stories and the British and US authorities at the time. There are quite a few collisions through the story. While others are outside, some are inside of Aya and herself.

She was attacked by Chato by the rancher of Chato, and he left him without hesitation when Chato got older to work. As a result, they lost their homes, when the rancher told Chato [and his old lady] had to leave the cab the following afternoon [they lived]. Aya has loyalty to Chat but it is clear that she thinks he is a weak husband and deeply torturing him.
