Ryan Gamel Time 2 10/19/11 A long way from innocence to Ishmael The long way of Beah is a story of a juvenile soldier, a way to civil war in that country, and a transition from childhood to adulthood. In his struggle, he is getting far from his innocence, so a long story is the perfect title of this book. When a boy like Ismail is exposed to fear of the war and tragedy at such a young age, only human beings adapt to the surrounding environment. "I believe that if there are opportunities children can be longer than their own pain" (p.169)
Besh, Ishmael has come a long way. The memoir of a juvenile soldier has always followed the path. During the civil war, Ismail fled from violence. It is only to become a part of himself. Ishmael was forced to do something unthinkable when the rebel army and the revolutionary united fight were occupied. After countless fights and massacres, Ishmael lived to talk about him. This book is really interesting. Readers learned not only the real civil war in Sierra Leone but also the inside of fighter aircraft and their feelings after they escaped destruction. For those who want to be caught in a genuine attractive story, we recommend A Long Way Gone. - Lease Fredericksen, grade 2020
