In the United States and Canada, the term "Eskimo" is often used by Europeans to explain Inuit and Ayurgaria's Yupik and Inupiaa. Since the late 20th century Canadian indigenous people and the Greenland Inuit people have considered "Eskimo" as a derogatory term, and they are more often referred to as "Inuit". The preferred terms for Canada's central and North Pole are Inunak and the Arctic Inuit of eastern Canada. This language is often called Inuktitut, but other local names are also used.
