Ernest Hemingway was born in Auckland, Illinois in 1899. He was a writer, when he was 17 he began his career in the Kansas City newspaper. When America was involved in the First World War, Hemingway joined the Italian army volunteer ambulance team. During his duty, he was injured and decorated by the Italian government. After returning to America he was hired as a journalist in Canadian and American newspaper and sent back to Europe to report about the Greek revolution.
