In Wikipedia, the amount of online content in various languages has considerable asymmetry. Among the 288 official languages, English is the largest version of the user, followed by German and French. On the other hand, content in many languages in Africa and Asia is rare. Even if you speak the dominant language, you still have limited information only. You may think that there are many common themes and popular historical events in different language versions. However, the contents of various language versions are fewer than imagined, the concept of 74% is only one language, the concept of 95% is less than 6 on Wikipedia. Even the largest, and perhaps the most versatile version of English, contains only 51% of articles in the second largest German version.
This may apply to any country in the world where English is not an official language. Finnish is one of the top speakers in the world of second language English. The sixth edition of the EF English Proficiency Index released in 2016 ranks Finland the fifth most excellent English speaker in 72 countries. In big cities in southern Finland, unless you speak Finnish, this is not a big problem. You can live in English. If you want to stay in Finland for a long time, sticking to English tenaciously and avoiding Finnish will keep you disappointed. In English, you live here as a foreigner, but in Finnish you begin to understand society and its people. Learning Finnish plays an important role in better interaction with Finnish people. Also, if you want to find a job in Finland, you need enough Finnish skills. As far as I am concerned, there is no more choice.
