Ralph Waldo Emerson, an essayist, poet and philosopher, was born on May 25, 1803 in Boston, Massachusetts. He is the son of the famous minister, William Emerson, and the son of Ruth Haskins, the daughter of a merchant. When Emerson was eight years old in 1811, his father died, left his mother, and brought up children with six children.
