Summary: Elton Mayo is a father of behavior management. However, when Mayo created this theory, it was originally called interpersonal relationship (Bruce & Nyland 2011). Interpersonal relationships arise directly from the way the industry deals with humans, as if they were machines. Mayo's theory focuses on the social aspects of people's lives and how they play an important role in production (Bruce & Nyland 2011). Throughout this article, the author examines how Mayo entered the industry and concludes that this is through his powerful and influential relationship like JDR Jr (Bruce & Nyland 2011).
George Elton Mayo (Australia, 1880-1949): Elton Mayo was born in Australia. He received education in logic and philosophy at St. Peters University in Adelaide. He led a team of Harvard researchers who conducted a study on human issues at the Hawthorne facility at Chicago Electric Company. They conducted some experiments (called Hawthorne experiments) and examined informal groupings, informal relationships, communication models, and informal leadership models. Elton Mayo is widely regarded as the father of faculty of human relations. Other major contributors to this school include Roethlisberger, Dickson, Dewey, Lewinetc
Hawthorne experiments were conducted at the West Power Company's Hawthorne plant. Experiments were conducted by Elton Mayo and Harvard Business School staff led by Elton Mayo, White Head, Roethlisberger, Dickson. The first of the four studies of Mayo took place at the Philadelphia Textile Factory. The problem he investigated was that labor mobility was too high in areas where labor was particularly monotonous and fatigued. The assigned workers will soon get depressed, frustrated, eventually they will lose their mood and retreat urgently without any obvious reason. Mayo initially thought that the cause of the behavior of the worker must be physical fatigue.
Elton Mayo (1880-1949) was a psychologist, sociologist, and organization theorist who was born in Australia and became the founder of the interpersonal movement, thanks to the expertise of industrial sociology. Hawthorne's experiment explains the importance of the group that influences the individual work behavior. Mayo emphasizes the fact that people and organizations need each other. According to him, effective managers are those who can combine technical knowledge and social proficiency.
George Elton Mayo (December 26, 1880 - September 7, 1949) was an Australian psychologist, sociologist, and organization theorist. Mayo is known as the founder of the interpersonal movement. His research includes Hawthorne's research and his work "Human Problems of Industrialization Civilization" (1933). His research in the Hawthorne study of the 1930s showed the importance of the group in influencing individual behavior in the workplace. Mayo's employees Roethlisberger and Dickson conducted actual experiments. This allows him to guess about the behavior of the administrator. He concluded that the performance of people depends on social problems and work content. He insists that there is a tension between the "emotional logic" of workers and the administrator's "cost and efficiency logic", which may lead to conflicts within the organization.
