In 1927, Sinclair Lewis published a book named "Elmer Gantry" which is the most controversial in American literature. This novel is a wandering novel that the hero is immoral and coexists with his wisdom (Elmer). Lewis is not a person who does not know the controversy, Elmer Lonte is no exception. Luis scrutinized the industrialized religion in the United States and called so-called revivalists as hypocrites and idiots. This book explains Elmer Gantry of the main character and his friends and roommates; Jim Lefferts is visiting Missouri Cato to learn about their love interests.
In his next major novel, Arrowsmith (1925), the purpose of the Lewis attack was the commercialization of medical professionals. In Elmer Gantry (1927), Mark Schorer calls it "the most controversial of all his books, the most brutal attack against American standards" and deals with religious America. The book caused more fuss than any of his previous novels, and in some way forbidden in certain parts of the United States for a while. The fifth Doddsworth (1929) of Lewis' most important novel is totally different from what the author has created so far and presents a very thoughtful picture of American businessmen for change .
Molière dealt with religious hypocrisy in this work, and in a better way (but as controversial) than Sinclair Lewis' Elmer Gantry does. However, Molière's classic works may be as bold as the 1960s and still controversial, but the playwright's fault (in my opinion) is his praise for monarchy. Like the philosopher Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, I can not wonder if his sentences are more radical, even if they are not restricted.
Finally, Elmer Gantry is an eternal book because it has a universal theme. Humans sin for eternity. Although it can be seen with other letters, the most obvious is seen through Elmer. Elmer has a history of improving hell and agnosticism. He was converted, but he still encountered the same problem. He is still free to drink, smoke, and have sex. When he was able to escape from this torture he was accused of becoming messed with one pastor in his first church, then he was driven out of theological school for drinking. He needed time as a businessman, but eventually I went back to the Ministry of Missionary, this time in the travel evangelism program a bit like the predecessor of television communicator. He was released from smoking and drinking but he was still a traitor, which was a flaw in his main role. He eventually got married and took his sermons seriously. However, he still commits infidelity with at least two women. He is the most prolific sinner in the novel, but he has a company.
