Elder Abuse in Ireland

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the meeting of the municipal hall to discuss the issue of elder abuse in Ireland. In discussing this issue, I would like to show how abuse of the elderly affects many vulnerable individuals in today's society, thereby creating awareness about each of the growing problems I think. First of all, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who attended this conference. In my speech, I will discuss symptoms and symptoms of elder abuse.

O Loughlin's research is trying to fix the lack of research on the elder abuse in Ireland. In April 1995, it was summarized in the national newspaper. This caused interest in this issue, among other experts. The results of this small-scale study were presented at the Irish Social Workers Association, the Ireland Occupational Therapy Association, the Irish Nurses Association, the Irish Geriatric Health Association, and the Irish Medical Institution Annual Meeting.

Just as official responses are needed, knowledge on abuse and neglect of the elderly is increasing. Many elderly people in Ireland have positive experiences in later life, but there is evidence that some are exposed to the most tragic forms of abuse. This report and other painful catalogs related to the situation in Ireland are challenging the suggestion that there is no abuse of the elderly in Ireland. In the first few chapters of this report we will explore the main aspects of this topic through comprehensive literature review. Its purpose is to provide information for developing services to protect the elderly from abuse and abuse and to guide future actions. The review provides background information and informs you of the research content of this report. Both will help to draw conclusions

This survey provides rich data that is expected to provide insight into the ill-treatment of elderly people in Ireland. The fact that the age of the victim (57% over 75 years old) and 13 out of 14 victims is female is similar to that reported in the literature (Tomlin 1989; Eastman 1984). The situation of the perpetrator shows that the son of six adults and five daughters constitute adult children. There are three cases of abuse by spouses, which shows that lifelong violence is spreading in the field of abuse of the elderly (Mastricola-Morris 1989; Homer 1994). Abusers also include nephews and grandchildren. Interestingly, most abusers are children of the victim, as the international literature suggests that spousal abuse is at least universal. To explain this, further research is needed to study the interaction between the Irish home environment and the elder abuse.
