According to Glass (2013), based on the LAUSD ELA course map underway and under development, "I am accustomed to persuasive sentences, but do not confuse them with discussion. At the heart of the ELA curriculum map are standards-based curriculums, performance-based learning and evaluation, and high-quality instruction. Educators use this map and standards as a roadmap for courses and education. Properly designed course sequence and quality educational resources allow teachers to spend more time and energy on education and assess the effectiveness of education for all learners with special learning needs I can.

According to state course maps, ELA teachers should teach all standards every nine weeks. Many of these pacing guidelines are not listed as major criteria every nine weeks every nine weeks to ensure that the criteria are taught strategically.
