Seth Bell told in an interview Horn Book magazine, said her choice of role and its hard of hearing it is sarcastic "what is the well-known large rabbit's ear;? Is superior hearing". With a hearing aid she was able to listen to the world around her, but she was seen as "distinctive", so she was kept away from some of the same age children.
