Effects of Occupational Stress on Psychological Well-being of Police Employees in Ibadan Metropolis, Nigeria

This survey investigated the impact of staff stress on mental health of police officials. The survey used a descriptive survey using 250 police officers from five local government districts in Ibadan big city in Nigeria. The three tools used were questionnaires created by adjusting relevant measures to measure the variables investigated. Data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) statistical method. The results obtained from this study show that work stress, frustration and depression have a profound effect on the mental health of the Ibadan Metropolitan Police Department. Based on these findings it is recommended that government and police organizations strive hard to find ways to manage psychological factors such as emotional labor, mental health, labor stress, social network of employers .

In particular, Mojoyinola (2008) investigated the impact of workplace stress in large cities of Ibadan in Nigeria. This research shows that stress of work has a big influence on the physical and mental health of nurses. It also identified significant differences in personal and work behavior between stressful nurses and less stressful nurses. Based on these findings, it is recommended that governments (federal or state) and hospital administration committees improve the welfare of nurses. It is also recommended to raise their morale by having them join policies and decisions about their welfare and patient care. Their salary should be reviewed and should be promoted during maturity
