Edward Theodore Gain was born on August 27, 1906 at Augusta and George Gaine of Lacrosse, Wisconsin. Eddie is the second of two boys born to a couple. At first he was Henry, he was 7 years older than Eddie (Bell). Edward's mother, Augusta is a very pious woman. She is determined to raise her son according to strict moral principles. She teaches her son about the Bible every day. She fears that a boy is forced to go to hell and insists that children understand all the immortality and looseness of a woman, hoping to stop the sexual desire of a boy .
