Economy is a convenient way to think about developer services. In fact, expert analyst Andreas Constantinou uses the term developer economics to refer to the entire developer ecosystem. If you think this term is exaggerated, please look at the presentation and see how realistic (and complex) the development economy is in fact. From an economic point of view, products at the intersection of two or more complementary groups of participants are often called platforms. Economic complementation is precisely the correct term as it reveals that the characteristics of supply and demand on one side of the platform can lead to supply and demand of the other. (For example, this is against the invasive effect of noncomplementary economic relations.)
