(Except appendix) eBay should focus on growth and continue to resist competition with competitors. Since its inception in 1996, eBay has dominated the online auction market in the United States. Current market conditions are changing and eBay has to prepare for continued growth. eBay has met most of the important success factors shown in Appendix 1, but we need to keep focusing on them to maintain current growth. The two fundamental challenges of eBay are continuous growth and evolution of business models.

This report is based on a case study by Louis Marino and Patrick Kreiser titled "eBay 2002: Challenges for Sustainable Growth". The case study shows that eBay has become a market leader and has achieved tremendous growth during and after the Internet bubble. The report focuses on analyzing the company's strategic capabilities, strategic choices to establish and strengthen its competitive position, and recommendations for its future strategies.

In addition to eBay's market interaction, this case study analyzes several factors of development and ultimate success. Analyzing these strategies, the growth of eBay's online auction platform is driven by growth in the e-commerce market, innovative approaches to social interaction, trends in emerging markets, a strong community awareness, and the core value of the organization . All of these will help the company succeed. eBay's positioning statement is "the world's online market place", which is important for the company's recognition of identity. eBay's core value is to foster a culture of trust and pleasure. Factors that contributed to the success of eBay include the use of Web sites, increased customer feedback, buyer protection, product categories, competitive pricing, and access to global markets.

In this article we will critically analyze how eBay's strategic function provides a sustainable competitive advantage.
