The invasion and occupation of Indonesia to East Timor is one of the worst atrocities of the century. Occupation takes over the life of more than 200,000 East Timorese people and occupies one-third of the original population. The United Nations Security Council calls on Jakarta twice to withdraw the resolution without delay. It is maintained with the help of the United States of America. East Timor occupies the eastern half of East Timor (India 300 miles north of Darwin) between Indonesia and Australia, East Timor has many mountains and diverse cultures.
East Timor is part of the island near the easternmost extremity of Indonesia. Until 1975, East Timor became part of the Portuguese colonial empire. However, since that time, Indonesia occupied East Timor. This military occupation in Indonesia is the root cause of the ethnic conflict on the island. The Indonesian government insists that East Timor can not prosper without its help, but East Timor believes independence is the only hope of their peaceful future. December 7th is the 20th anniversary of the invasion of East Timor in Indonesia. The consequences of the invasion of 1975 have devastating effects on locals in East Timor. In addition to those who oppose Indonesian security forces, many people have died of illness and malnutrition. Of the nearly 650,000 people before the invasion, it is estimated that the number of people killed in the 20-year conflict will be as high as 200,000 people.
After the invasion of Indonesia in 1975, East Timor was consolidated by Indonesia and was known as Timor Timur. Indonesia considers it to be the 27th state of the country, but the United Nations has not recognized this before. East Timorese people resisted the Indonesian troops in the long-term guerrilla war. In 1975, according to the Madrid Agreement between Morocco, Mauritania and Spain, the latter withdrew from the territory and transferred the regime to Morocco and Mauritania. This is an independent movement, Frente POLISARIO is challenging guerrilla against Morocco and Mauritania. In 1979, after the military coup, Mauritania withdrew from Morocco's dominated territory. The UN peace process started in 1991 but is stagnant and as of the middle of 2012 the United Nations has reached a resolution of the conflict by direct negotiations between Morocco and Frente POLISARIO.
