East Timor was governed by Portugal for about the 17th century. During the First World War, hundreds of East Timorese murdered and helped the Australian army fight against Japan. Immediately after Portugal died suddenly in 1975, East Timor, the second day when President Ford visited Indonesia, invaded Indonesia. At that time, Indonesia received from military, economic and political support, such as Britain, America, Australia and other countries, such as oil and natural gas reserves, strategic location, various transactions and benefits related to inexpensive labor I was receiving.
This is what I thought when Paul Keating signed a "security and security agreement" with Indonesia in 1995 and made a strategic alliance. It was not possible to overcome the crisis of East Timor. After all, neither country was ready to regard each other as an alliance. And today we are far away from this position. However, geography brings hope. Any external threat to Indonesia is a major threat to Australia and vice versa. For example, this makes Indonesia a more natural alliance than Japan. Even if we are attacked, we always want to receive Japanese aid. How surely will we come to us? Japan's values may be closer to us than Indonesia, but its strategic interests are not.
After the invasion of Indonesia in 1975, East Timor was consolidated by Indonesia and was known as Timor Timur. Indonesia considers it to be the 27th state of the country, but the United Nations has not recognized this before. East Timorese people resisted the Indonesian troops in the long-term guerrilla war. In 1975, according to the Madrid Agreement between Morocco, Mauritania and Spain, the latter withdrew from the territory and transferred the regime to Morocco and Mauritania. This is an independent movement, Frente POLISARIO is challenging guerrilla against Morocco and Mauritania. In 1979, after the military coup, Mauritania withdrew from Morocco's dominated territory. The UN peace process started in 1991 but is stagnant and as of the middle of 2012 the United Nations has reached a resolution of the conflict by direct negotiations between Morocco and Frente POLISARIO.
