Charles Fox Palmer is an excellent figure in the history of the Pentecostal movement. He was the founder of the first Pentecostal church known as the apostolic church. From the late nineteenth century to the early twentieth century, he led the Bible School of Topeka, Kansas. There, the baptism of the Holy Spirit was emphasized as an important element of faith. During the Christmas holiday in 1900, Palest asked his students to study the Bible to discover the biblical evidence of the Holy Spirit baptism. On January 1, 1901, a series of revival prayer meetings began, experiencing the baptism of the Holy Spirit, accompanied by many talks with many students in tongues themselves. Their conclusion is that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is expressed and proved by speaking in tongues. According to this experience, today's sect of God, the largest Pentecostal body in the United States, can be traced back to the belief that speaking in tongues is the biblical evidence of the Holy Spirit baptism.
