DESK hopes people will come to us someday.
On Friday, December 6, 2002, in my sociology program, some of my classmates and I helped the soup kitchen in downtown Georgia State Valdosta. Tedrick and I went to work around 10:30 am and started a trip to the soup kitchen. On the way to the soup kitchen, we were a little worried that we did not know what would happen. I was very nervous when we entered a place that looks like a parking lot. The parking lot is covered with gravel and mud, it has an aging signboard on the side of the entrance, leading to the screen door, saying a soup kitchen. About 3 to 4 people stood outside on the soup kitchen pouch. Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Hello. It is very friendly. They smiled, in return, they returned to friendly and answered our greetings.
When I went to the soup kitchen, I was half angry so I had to get up on Saturday morning. When I got there, everyone was preparing for this day. Soup kitchen volunteers are divided into groups. One group of volunteers is preparing foods while other groups are preparing food. We have donuts and coffee in the morning. In the afternoon, we serve a variety of dishes for hamburgers. People who came to the soup kitchen were those who mainly had bad luck, just said they wanted to eat a free meal. From the middle class family I have to admit that I am quite well off and protected at all.
Soup kitchens, food centers, or food kitchens often offer food to hungry for free or sometimes below market price. Soup kitchens are often found in communities of low income groups and are organized mainly by volunteers such as churches and community groups. Because the soup kitchen is regarded as a charity organization, you can get food from food banks free of charge or at a low price, making food easier for many people who need services. Many histories and some modern soup kitchens only provide soup (hence its name) that may have some bread. But somewhere else we call themselves "soup kitchen" we are offering other kinds of foods so social scientists can provide similar dietary relief to provide more diverse hot meals such as food kitchen and food center There are things to discuss about institutions and them.
